After having Ménage à Trois Midnight we might not go back to the standard Red offering. I mean I like the standard Red wine, but it takes a backseat to Midnight. The blend for Midnight is well-chosen, but not particularly meaningful until you compare it with Red and then it is instantly apparent why I like this so much more.

The Red is 46% Zinfandel, 36% Merlot, and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, while the Midnight is 44% California Merlot, 42% California Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% California Petite Sirah, and 3% California Petit Verdot. Upping both the Merlot and Cabernet is why this is so dark and lovely. By comparison the Red seems like starter juice. Midnight is filled with blackberry and plum with a nice background note of chocolate and subtle spice. It’s deep, dark and mysterious without being overwhelming. Anyway the best thing about it is the price point which is generally a Hamilton (10 beans). Any wine this good for only 10 bucks is a winner in my book and deserves a place of honor as a house favorite. If you haven’t had it yet give it a try, you will not be disappointed in the blend.
