I happened upon Colonel E.H. Taylor Small Batch in a SC candy store and decided to give it a try since it comes from Buffalo Trace Distillery and I tend to like pretty much everything they put out. The description says, “Tastes of caramel corn sweetness, mingled with butterscotch and licorice. The aftertaste is a soft mouth-feel that turns into subtle spices of pepper and tobacco.” I have to agree with almost every word. I got the spice, the tobacco and the sweetness. I’m not sure about the licorice, but I’ll put a keener eye to it when I next pull the cork. The bottom line is this is one fine bottle of Bourbon. It’s not ridiculously prices at $50, but is high enough to give pause when you spot it on the shelf with so many bottles are available at $10 less. I’m sure along the way I’ll find others I really enjoy, but I may have to keep a bottle of this around, if I can. If you see this one in your local store, do not hesitate to purchase a bottle, it is worth every penny.
