How many times have you been into a bar or restaurant looking for a special draft only to find out they don’t have it and they are not sure if they will even be able to get it? Now look at it from a brewery perspective, they are trying to get the beer to where it is wanted and often have to play favorites with distribution. Smuttynose recently solved that problem by rolling out an online system where an email is sent regarding special release beers and establishments can log in and order kegs to be added to their distributors sell sheet. While this only benefits the establishments who read their emails and log in, I simply cannot think of a better way to allocate small batch keg-only releases. Perhaps others will follow suit and devise a similar program, but until then at least Smuttynose has solved the problem.
