Once upon a time in 1975 an English-style Barleywine was introduced named Old Foghorn. Anchor Brewing uses Cascade hops which brings more of an American character to the brew. Last night I saw it on draft and ordered a glass and I must say I was underwhelmed. The beer seemed to have a good balance of bitterness and malt, but just didn’t seem to have the character I remember. I think their board said 10% and the alcohol was restrained. In the beers defense it was served far too cold, at least the glass was beer clean and at room temp so it did warm. Still a nice beer, just not mind-blowing. The next time I see it on draft I may have to give it another whirl just to see if it was a singular incident or if the beer really has become a little boring over time.
