While I was in Greenville, SC at Costco I ventured into the attached liquor store and spied a bottle of Kirkland Signature Bourbon (KS) and knew I had to bring that puppy home. I seem to recall it being less than $25 and it was a liter bottle. The label says aged 7 years and 51.5% (103 Proof). After some research it turns out this is a Beam product and it certainly has some similarities to Knob Creek (KC). KC is a 9 year product and is certainly more complex than KS. The KS Bourbon was never boozy, I tried it over ice, and had a nice brown sugar essence and a lightly smoky aspect. There was a some leather and tobacco, but nothing was offensive and I guess that is where it really fell just a bit short. It is pedestrian Bourbon and at a sub $25 price point per liter I’m not really surprised nor upset. This would be a great Bourbon to use as training wheels or to mix with something else or into something. I’ve done a 180 on mixed drinks and actually now believe certain Bourbons work better in certain drinks, but this would never turn out offensive to anyone. So would I suggest you buy this? You betcha, at that price point it is affordable and approachable. What do you really have to lose? Getcha some!
