Happened to be at a brewpub with an excellent Bourbon selection last night and was able to have several high-end Bourbons which will ultimately influence some future purchases. Luckily I tried two which I won’t be bringing home. The reason I am glad is both are in the $70+ price range and I pretty much disliked them both. Full disclosure, I drank them neat and they might have blossomed and bloomed with some water or with a little ice, but the Bourbons I had which were crazy beautiful were consumed neat as well, so these two are off my list. Both were throwing off some fusel alcohols which were unpleasant.
The first was Angel’s Envy. It was hot with all nail polish all the time. I read about this one getting awards, but it won’t earn any from me.
The second was Colonel E.H. Taylor Rye. This one has won awards as well, but again, not from me. It was ok, but it was not $70 worth of ok. IMO there are better rye whiskeys for much less money.
I did find two I will search high and low to find. I’ll keep them under wraps until I can locate a bottle and do a proper review.
