Knob Creek Smoked Maple went on sale this month so of course I had to pick up a bottle. For some reason in the back of my mind I was envisioning a Bourbon which had spent time on smoked maple wood, not a Bourbon which was infused with maple flavor. I must admit I didn’t have this neat or on the rocks since I had an opened can of ginger and had just finished off the remnants from another bottle. So I mixed straight out of the gate which is not my normal SOP. The aroma was maple syrup as I poured it in the glass and that should have been the clue this was no special wood, it was added flavors. My brain just didn’t take the hint so I proceeded to prepare my normal libation creation. The first thought I had when I put the glass to my lips is wow is that sweet. I mean it was over the top out of sight hurt your teeth sweet. Eventually I added some W.L. Weller Antique 107 to the glass to make it palatable. Note to self, be sure to put your Antique thoughts in a blog post soon.

I think Knob Creek Smoked Maple might be fine to sip along with some pancakes and bacon or sausage as an early morning trip. It also might find its way into some fine mixed drinks. It even could be a base for a great Bourbon sauce. However it failed in my Old Fashioned Ginger recipe. I don’t think I can recommend it due to how sweet it presented unless someone loves maple syrup and likes their Bourbon to finish might sweet. I’ll give this on a whirl neat and on the rocks before all is said and done, but if you decide to try it be sure to have a backup plan if you are mixing with this one.
