I was first introduced to a Mojito thirteen years ago while visiting Key West. We spend darn near every afternoon at El Meson de Pepe and the barkeep schooled up on the drink. Yesterday we happened upon an acceptable Mojito at Willie T’s, but it still left us wanting more. While watching the sunset at Mallory’s Square a nice lady had a beautiful Mojito and when we asked where she procured said beverage she pointed us in the direction of a bar setup in the vicinity of The Westin. We arrived at a converted car bar and started chatting up the barkeep and told him how much we appreciated his what we saw in the young lady’s glass and he pointed to his nametag and said they had dubbed him Mr. Mojito. Lemme tell you this guy is legit. He said his key is lots of mint and lime and then lots of muddling and shaking. He was instructed by two Cuban men on how to make it and has been making it that way ever sense.
I must say his Mojito’s are outstanding. Three cheers for Mr. Mojito!
