I often wonder about how many times a crime is stopped by a concealed handgun permit holder and we never hear about it. Well Wednesday that is exactly what happened. Did it make the National news, CNN, MSNBC, heck even Fox didn’t mention the incident. It appeared on the facebook page of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office of North Carolina.
Below are the two facebook posts which detail the incident. Chalk one up for the good guys!
Units with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office responded to an attempted armed robbery this past evening at Floyd’s Grocery located on NC 98 Highway west of Bunn. The call was received at 2211 hours.
The first unit arrived on the scene at 2215 hours at which time it was determined that suspect had fled the area operating a dark green in color Chevy full size truck with “Alex Roofing” lettering down both sides. The vehicle was last seen traveling towards Bunn.
A second unit, while also en-rout, checked on a second convenient store, R & R Grocery, located on Pearces Road approximately five miles from Floyd’s Grocery. The suspect vehicle was observed by the unit parked on the south side of the building. Additional units were requested.
Sheriff Jones was the first unit to arrive at R & R to assist the unit. While exiting his vehicle Sheriff Jones observed a white male matching the description of the suspect regarding the incident at Floyd’s Grocery. The subject was positioned outside of the store and was attempting to secret an object under his coat. Verbal commands were given to the suspect to come forward out of the shadows and to show the contents of his hands. The subject refused to comply at which time a brief struggle ensued. During the struggle it was determined that the suspect was attempting to secret a long barrel weapon under his coat. A locally assigned State Trooper arrived on the scene as well and the subject was brought under control after having been neutralized with a less than lethal device, TASER.
The subject was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
Suspect information will be provided at a later date.
It also bears noting that the attempted armed robbery at Floyd’s Grocery was unsuccessful. There happened to be one customer in the store when the suspect entered, brandished a log barrel weapon, and demanded money from the clerk. The customer was a Concealed Carry Permit Holder. The customer pulled out his pistol at which time the suspect fled the scene. No shots were fired by the citizen or the suspect.
