I was telling a friend that Buffalo Trace is only $20 a fifth in South Carolina and asked him if he wanted any and he said two bottles. As it turns out the store I visit has half-gallon bottles of Buffalo Trace as well.
As a reminder a fifth is 750 ml or 1/5 of a gallon. However a half-gallon isn’t actually a half-gallon, it is 1750 ml so a bit shy of a half-gallon. A half-gallon of spirits is 2 1/3 fifth bottles. So with a half-gallon being $40 it was a screaming bargain and my buddy will happily get one big bottle instead of two small ones. Ain’t math fun. 😉
