Last month I wrote that beer is cool and last night that proved to be true once again. I found myself in what was once a beer wasteland in the sandhills of NC and happened upon a gastropub. In reality I had done some research for a buddy who was golfing in the area and remembered the establishment and decided to check it out. I bellied up to the bar with a couple of local gentlemen and was eyeing their appetizers when we struck up a conversation. The beer list was small, but mighty and I settled on a Green Flash Palate Wrecker to wet the whistle while I waited for my food to arrive. The food was very good, but since I only had appetizers I really cannot speak for the entire menu. The beer list had something for most everyone and they also have bottled offerings for those who may not find the eclectic mix of taps appealing.
The once beer wasteland is Southern Pines and the gastropub is The Sly Fox. If you find yourself in that area give the place a whirl. I’m told it is like the second best restaurant in the area and I believe for the beer geek it is the best place in town.
