Yesterday during a concealed class I had one student who was trepidatious about shooting a firearm they had never shot before. The student had shot with another instructor and became somewhat familiar with a different firearm and had what can best be described as fear at learning the ins and outs of a new firearm. In reality the firearm we were using for the class was much easier to manipulate than the one they had used previously, but it took some coaxing to break down that barrier. We took time in the classroom to manipulate the slide and slide release so everyone was comfortable with the firearm. Ultimately I believe the student enjoyed using the new firearm and it did not take long for them to understand and appreciate the ease it offered in operation. At the range they did and excellent job and I would not be surprised if they didn’t buy that model at some point in the future.
If you are reading the blog and are new to firearms, please do not be afraid to try something new. You may find, as the student did, there was no reason to be worried in the first place.
