Every resident of NC knows the state controls the ABC system. What you may not realize is prices are set statewide the only difference county to county is the sales tax. I may just have an old fuzzy memory, but I don’t think sales tax has always been charged on liquor, I seem to recall the price you paid was the price on the bottle once upon a time. (If I am wrong, someone please let me know.) I’m not the type to make many spur of the moment liquor purchases. We have to be running out of something for me to go to the store and buy more unless I see something is going on special. Most people probably don’t realize items go on special at the ABC store and they are announced months ahead of time. The trick is finding the list of the specials and the best place to do that is the Durham ABC monthly specials site.
Wake has tried to step up their site, but it pales in comparison to Durham. If you type in a product in the Durham site search bar the results will tell you what stores have it and the price for the product. Wake has a feature which will allow you to check the price on anything in the ABC system, but it doesn’t give you any inkling as to which store will have what. Mecklenburg has a neat feature if you type in a type or brand it will bring up a list and then you can dive deeper into locations and it will tell you how many bottles each location has in stock. So play around on your local ABC board site, it could be they have a neat feature which will help you find that special bottle.
