So ammo is starting to once again become available, well, kinda. I travel quite a bit and generally pop my head into stores to see what I can find and if I see a deal I snag it. Pretty much right now you can find almost any caliber through diligence and some online persistence. However there is one elusive critter that I just seem to keep chasing and it is one I would have never expected would be so darn hard to find. The .22lr seems to be made of unobtanium at the moment.
I saw some for sale online and had it in the cart and decided to skip it and later found they had oversold and it really was not in stock when they listed it was available. Another store had it for a good price and of course I arrived too late and the inventory they received was sold out in less than 4 hours. At this point it has been almost 4 weeks since I have actually spotted standard everyday .22lr on the shelf and available for purchase. Sure I have seen some of the super exotic match grade rounds which are only used for competition and priced like they are made of pure titanium. I also have seen the super low power loads which barely fall out of the end of the barrel and do not have enough powder to cycle the action of a semi-automatic. What I want is just some good old CCI Mini-Mags. They have never been an inexpensive round, but the beauty is they always go bang. Heck, right now I’d settle for the Remington Golden Bullets which are about as useless as teats on a boar hog, but beggars really cannot be choosers.
So if you find some, help a brother out and pass the word along. In reality I suspect another month and it won’t be a problem to find, but right now it’s like fishing for a coelacanth.
