Came across the new version of Cottonwood Frostbite from Foothills so I had to snag it and give it a whirl. I remember the original version back in the day as being more of an amber/brown ale with a malty caramel presence and a strong grapefruit hop presence. This new version arrives as a Black India Pale Ale the aroma was piney and resinous and in the flavor even stronger pine and resin with grapefruit still along for the ride. Gone is the caramelly malt presence with more of a light roast/coffee presence, but not to the point of being misconstrued as a porter or a stout. The beer was smooth and interesting and while I may reminisce about the original version this new 6.5% ABV 74 IBU version is a tasty beverage. The last time I penned a note about Frostbite it was 8.5% ABV and delicious. Now it is a different bird, still delicious, but in a different way.
If you find it out and about give it a whirl, you have nothing to lose!
