The forums were on fire yesterday when a local gun shop announced they plan to open a new range near the RDU airport in Raleigh. They have a survey online which makes me wonder if they are still just planning the range, or have a definite layout in the works with architects and engineers. The plan, quoted below, included 30 total lanes with 20 lanes 25 yards in length and 10 lanes 50 yards in length. Just running a back of the envelope $50k per lane makes the range a cool 1.5 million not including the storefront and land to build on. It is a massive undertaking to build an indoor range and air quality concerns can drive up the initial investment and ongoing maintenance costs considerably.
It will be interesting to see how this project progresses. Assuming Raleigh has no special permitting considerations I’d suspect the earliest you will see this open for business would be late in 2013.
Here are our plans:
30 indoor lanes, 20 lanes to be 25 yards long, 10 lanes to be 50 yards long. Rifles up to 50 BMG to be allowed
Computerized, automatic retrieval turning targets.
The very latest Simulation rooms, with multiple scenarios, with bluetooth equipped guns.
Classrooms for all the different training offerings.
HVAC that exceeds OSHA and EPA standards.
VIP area with lockers, Wi-Fi business center, flat screen tv’s.
Multiple membership plans.
Retail area that will be larger than any in the area, with much more selection to choose from.
Rooms for parties, corporate and charity events.
Location in the RDU/Brier Creek area.
