I happened to catch an article on finger position along the frame and it made me begin to think about how I position my own booger picker along the side of a firearm. Typically I rest my finger above the trigger and along the frame, but I don’t over exaggerate the position. The article talks about an instructor who was demonstrating holster draw and inadvertently placed his finger on the trigger as he clenched his fist to holster the pistol which discharged the firearm. According to the author this was due to finger position. The article goes on to advocate a high position, a bent finger position or a combination of the two.
I don’t rest my finger along the trigger, I’m higher, but I may practice to be sure that is true with all of the firearms I may carry for protection. Typically my position is closer to those in the photos below which I found on the web, but it may be worthwhile for you to evaluate your finger position on the pistol to be sure an accident is avoided.
