I’ve ordered from Cabela’s in the past, but we do not have a store in our neck of the woods so when I passed one on the Interstate while on vacation I thought I better at least stick my head in the door. If you have seen their catalog or are lucky enough to have a store near you then you know their prices are generally reasonable and their inventory is massive.
The store reminded me of a Bass Pro Shops, but perhaps slightly smaller in size and with better pricing. They still were not giving anything away at Cabelas, but in the Charlotte BPS they want $499 for a Ruger SR9 and in Cabelas it was $449. Now with diligent searching you can find an SR9 in my neck of the woods for less than four bills so no screaming firearm bargain, but certainly good enough to not spend hours driving around to find the best deal. (Of course with the internet you can search for deals in a matter of minutes.) They had their “Gun Library” and my take away was they had some very nice and some antique long guns, but their price of admission was just a bit too steep and much of that inventory was ridiculously overpriced.
To anyone in the market for a particular firearm, I’d suggest if you have a Cabela’s to use that as a starting point since the pricing on most pistols seemed reasonable and it would be a great place to see several guns at one time.
