In early April I posted about Ammo Deals and then later about ordering some 38 special and some .380 Auto. I still haven’t made it to the range to shoot that, but in the meantime was shown a site I believe is worth bookmarking when you are on the hunt for great deals on ammo.
The site is gun-deals.com/ammo and to say it is not a flashy site would be an understatement. It doesn’t even have a logo. The deals are submitted by users and you select the caliber from the drop down box and a list of sortable columns will come up once the site crunches the submitted data. There is the cost per round (CPR) at the selling price and then what I believe is a more useful metric is the last column on the right which is the total cost per round and includes shipping.
Most of the deals are gathered off the web so for the most part they will not include local stores and will probably not capture taxes associated with an order. One of my local shops has a CPR on .45 Auto which bests anything listed on gun-deals. Another sale going on at Dunn’s right this minute is 5250 rounds of 22lr Federal for $170 including shipping. SGAmmo is where I got the 38 Special and .380 Auto deals. So scour the web and you can probably find what you are after somewhere in the mix for a decent price.
I do actually not believe there is any pending Ammo Shortage even though the Government has purchased an astonishing number of rounds. Companies only have a certain capacity to manufacture ammunition and with everyone scrambling to lock in prices due to the escalating price of copper it is making the market seem as if supply is much lower than demand. When some shops who normally would only order cases begin to order pallets then other shops will have a difficult time keeping the shelves full. At some point it will all level out, but in the meantime try to find a deal and if you find a great one, AFTER you place your order, be a sport and pass the information along to someone else!
