No, not at all. It was announced earlier in the week that North Carolina has scored yet another brewery and this time it did not take any tax incentives to seal the deal. Oskar Blues is the latest national brewery to announce a new facility in NC. This time the town is not Asheville or just outside of Asheville, it is about 35 miles away in Brevard. Brevard already was home to Brevard Brewing which just opened on April 23, and they put out a press release yesterday welcoming Oskar Blues to the neighborhood. The successful Pop The Cap campaign opened the door for Sierra Nevada and New Belgium and certainly Oskar Blues would not have taken note of the area had it not been for Asheville taking the title of Beer City USA three years in a row.
I found this neat graphic on another blog (the graphic is linked for those interested). Perhaps you are one of the minority that has not realized the growth of the beer industry in NC, but you should take notice because it seems we have a thirst which needs to be quenched!
