The announcement finally came yesterday that New Belgium Brewing Co. has selected Asheville as the city for their new brewery. Honestly, I thought this was a done deal when I heard they were surveying property in the River Arts District. This truly is a ripple effect from the PTC campaign which changed the alcohol limits of beer in NC. While New Belgium is not known for alcohol bombs, the old laws would not have allowed any beer to be sold greater than 6%ABV and that antiquated law tied the hands of existing breweries and would have stifled any new growth.
So let’s put out the welcome mat for New Belgium as we wait for production to commence in 2015!
