No, this post is not about ammunition, it is about Bourbon. While perusing the ABC store in search of a less expensive Bourbon to use in my Bourbon And Ginger I spied a bottle of Bulleit and decided for 24 beans to give it a whirl.

The bottle appeared to be something from the Old West with a medicine bottle look which certainly set it apart from the crowd. The liquor is 90 proof and when the corked cap emerges from the bottle you can detect a strong waft of alcohol mixed with boozy Bourbon. The charred oak aromatics are not as strong as with some Bourbons, and it has a decidedly floral and citrusy note. As I purchased this beauty for mixing I found it has a sweeter flavor of honey in my ginger concoction as opposed to the Basil Hayden I had used prior to finding this less expensive alternative. (FWIW – I like the Basil over ice for sipping, and have not given Bulleit a chance to grace my presence in the same manner.) I find the nose to have roses and oak with more fresh cut spring flowers in tow. The flavor is very smooth and with the honey character is far too easy to consume.

So IMHO Bulleit is a hit for mixing, might not be my first choice for having over ice, but would certainly scratch the itch in a pinch!
